Stanford junior Michael Atchoo set a new school and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) record in the mile to lead the Cardinal men’s track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the MPSF championships. The women finished fourth.
This weekend the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship starts off its 21st year of competition, but more importantly, this weekend marks an opportunity for the Stanford women’s track and field team to bring home its ninth MPSF title.

Both the Stanford men’s and women’s track teams traveled 3,000 miles to compete in the Armory Invitational in New York City last weekend. Against competition that the Cardinal could potentially see at the NCAA Championships in early March, Stanford turned in a strong performance, led by junior Michael Atchoo, who was named Outstanding Performer of the meet.
Former Georgetown track and field associate head coach Chris Miltenberg will be the new Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track & Field and Stanford cross-country head coach, officially announced by Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir on Monday.
