A look at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival

The glamour that is the Cannes International Film Festival kicked off at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, off the coast of the French Riviera, on Wednesday. The massive event, widely considered to be the granddaddy of film festivals, will showcase several of the works already thought to be in the running for various awards next winter. Review: ‘Human Again’

One might have predicted that Ingrid Michaelson’s new album would come out as Valentine’s Day edges closer. After all, a narrow view of Michaelson shows that she has essentially cornered the market on “how-delightfully-romantic!” songs, particularly thinking about her most successful single, “The Way I Am.”

Best albums of 2011

It’s hard to designate 12 months’ worth of musical releases as “weak,” but if any year can boldly claim the title, it’s 2011. The homogeneity of radio favorites is almost ridiculous: add some dubstep and you’re guaranteed to go platinum. “Sexy And I Know It” has now spent three solid months in the top three of the Billboard Hot 100–enough said. There were catchy releases and a smattering of good songs, but when entire albums were great, they were almost impeccable. Here are a couple examples of what we mean.
