Coupe, who has already been with the Cardinal program for seven seasons, was an assistant coach under departed head coach John Whitlinger before his promotion this season under new head coach Paul Goldstein.

“I feel incredibly grateful and fortunate to have the opportunity to work alongside Brandon Coupe,” said Goldstein to gostanford.com. “Brandon is a tremendous asset to the Stanford community and, in particular, our program. This well-earned promotion is a testament to Brandon’s hard work and the respect he engenders from those with whom he interacts.”

Coupe was named the ITA Northwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year for 2014 after the Cardinal rose from No. 52 in the nation to No. 27 in three weeks at the end of the season, despite injuries to key contributors down the stretch. The Cardinal ultimately lost to Tulsa in the first round of the NCAA Championships.

This season, Coupe will help guide the team, led by a quartet of experienced upperclassmen in juniors Maciek Romanowicz and Anthony Tsodikov and seniors John Morrissey and Robert Stineman, as it navigates its fall season. The team wrapped up play at the Napa Valley Tennis Classic this past weekend.
