Sexual battery reported near Manzanita Field

A male suspect reportedly groped a female student from behind at approximately 1:20 p.m. Wednesday on a sidewalk near Manzanita Field. In a campus-wide alert, Stanford University Department of Public Safety (SUDPS) characterized the incident as a sexual battery.

The SUDPS alert described the suspect as “a Hispanic male in his 20s/30s, 5’5’’, 180-190 lbs.” According to the alert, the suspect has long black hair and was wearing a white tank top, dark pants and a thick gold chain when he was last seen near the intersection of Campus Drive and Serra Street.

The campus-wide AlertSU Mass Notification – a system that blasts students, faculty and staff with emails, text messages and voice mails – was issued at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The alert noted that similar incidents involving suspects of different descriptions have been reported in Palo Alto recently, such as the incident described in this City of Palo Alto Press Release.

Anybody with information about the incident has been asked to contact SUDPS at (650) 329-2413.

So a random hispanic student accidentally bumped into a female student, and all of a sudden the administration has to send out a campus-wide alert? Talk about race mongering…

  • Stan

sexual assaults are taken seriously at stanford. Do you have a problem with that? Who cares what race is involved?

  • Niner

As with any police report, there will be a description of the suspect. Race, as “Stan” said, is not the reason for sending out notices. Notices are meant to inform students so that they may remain vigilant and aware of what is happening in their community. The problem is the nature of the incident. Why would you reduce sexual battery down to merely “bumping into” someone?
