Moving through the hospital corridors, no one ran up to Dr. Peter Poullos to tell him he couldn’t be on his Segway, or to demand why he doesn’t just walk or to ask to see some proof of his disability. Yet these demands, and worse, have all happened before. Poullos is a radiology resident physician [...]

University must honor
promises to janitors
To the editor,
One year ago, Stanford students, workers and community members went on a hunger strike for a real living wage policy at Stanford. April 20, 2008 marked the one-year anniversary of the end of the fast, which came after a week of negotiations between the Stanford Labor Action Coalition (SLAC) [...]
The Wanderer: Hungry? Why wait?
Santiago, Chile — Good thing you already paid your board bill. The “silent tsunami” of the global food crisis is still building in scope and destructive potential. In an interview on the Center for Global Development’s Web site, expert Peter Timmer estimated that 10 million people could die prematurely if the crisis continues at its [...]
Positive Sustainability: A world without waste
The chair in which I write this column is a toxic conglomeration of mixed plastics, several unknown alloys of metal, cardboard, grease and polyurethane foam soaked in carcinogenic flame-retardants. If the intention of my anonymous chair designers was to pollute my indoor environment and create twenty pounds of un-recyclable waste, they’ve certainly succeeded. If it [...]

According to several ProFros with whom The Daily spoke, their experiences at Admit Weekend played a large role in their decision to attend Stanford.
Out of the many activities Stanford [...]
